The recently concluded General Sensitization on Labours and Industrial Court Awards held on 14th February 2019 at the FUE Head Office was a huge success. It was attended by 50 employers from various sectors.
The focus was on the exposition of the practice and principles of the workers’ compensation law in Uganda. Employers were also engaged on challenges faced in implementing employment laws, compliance with the workers’ compensation law of Uganda and reflecting on the emerging issues including the precedents of the court of Uganda in relation to workers’ compensation cases.
Key note speakers from the Uganda Insurers Association gave insights on insurance processes, regulations and its benefits regarding Workers’ Compensation.
From the deliberations it was resolved that most of the provisions in the Worker’s Compensation Act of 2000 are obsolete and need to be reviewed. Employers are therefore, called upon to contribute toward the amendment process by sending in suggestions that will be compiled and presented to Parliament by FUE on behalf of employers.
