The Federation of Uganda Employers

The Federation was initially registered as a corporate body on 18th August 1960 under the names of Society of Employers which was changed to Federation of Uganda Employers on 17th August 1961 under the Trustees Incorporation Act 1939 Cap 126 Laws of Uganda.

Today, the Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE) the Voice of Employers on social and economic issues. It is recognized both locally and internationally as a top-notch employers’ organization in Uganda.

he Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) was established in 1899 under the British Protectorate as a branch of the King's African Rifles (KAR), tasked with providing safe custody for offenders. By 1903, UPS was recognized as a separate department from the KAR, although KAR soldiers continued to assist in training. The Prisons Training School in Luzira, initially run by KAR soldiers, was formally opened on April 26, 1950, by Governor Sir John Harthon.

FUE is also affiliated to the International Organization of Employers (IOE), Business Africa and East African Employers Organization (EAEO). It is the officially recognized body that represents Ugandan Employers at the International Labour Organization’s Annual Labour Conference.

Our Story

The Federation was registered as a corporate body on 18th August 1960 under the name; Society of Employers. It was later changed to Federation of Uganda Employers on 17th August 1961 under the Trustees Incorporation Act 1939, Cap 126 Laws of Uganda.

The first Trustees were Mr. Lionel Lumley Brown, Regional Representative East African Railways and Harbors, Mr. Charles Henry Rowe, General Manager Uganda Company (Africa) Ltd, and Mr. Alfred Edward Pugsley, Managing Director, Kilembe Mines Ltd.

These were replaced by Mr. Aloysius K Ssemmanda, Chairman Multitech Busines School, Mr Mayur Madhivani, Director Kakira Sugar Ltd and Mr. Mohammed Alibhai, Managing Director, Tight Security in 2014.
The Trustees have an oversight role over the property of the organization as spelt out in Article 7 E of the FUE constitution.
Today, Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE) is the premier Employers’ organization in Uganda with diverse membership cutting across private and public sectors, profit and non-profit organizations, individual organizations and sectorial associations.
It is the voice of Employers on social and economic issues in Uganda.

Objectives Of Federation of Uganda Employers

  • To encourage and promote the development and maintenance of good relations between Employers and Workers and the observance of fair and equitable conditions of Employment.
  • To promote and encourage consultation amongst its Members on matters concerning Employment and Industrial Development.
  • To advise and cooperate with the Government of Uganda and with others in the promotion and protection of Employment interests and Industrial Development.
  • To promote and encourage labour market and other surveys and the collection and dissemination amongst employers of statistical information and to provide information and advice on all matters to such interests.
  • To collaborate with the Government of Uganda and other bodies in surveying requirements of Employers in the fields of skilled and specialist personnel manpower development and to promote and advise in the promotion of schemes for training of personnel locally and abroad.
  • To advise Employers on labour disputes and to present and arrange for the representation of Employers in any proceedings before the Arbitration Board, Committees of Inquiry, Industrial Court or other judicial and quasi-judicial bodies.
  • To initiate, promote, support or approve legislative and other measures affecting or likely to affect the interests of Employers.
