The Partnership for Improving Prospects for Forcibly Displaced Persons and Host Communities (PROSPECTS) project in Uganda is a flagship initiative funded by the Government of the Netherlands and supported by the International Labour Organization (ILO), aimed at facilitating a shift from emergency humanitarian relief to sustainable, development-driven solutions. Implemented across major refugee-hosting districts including Arua, Terego, Madi-Okollo, and Isingiro the project focuses on three core pillars: Inclusion, Self-Reliance, and Sustainable Development.
Within this multi-agency framework, the Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE) plays a critical role by connecting forcibly displaced populations and host community members to formal economic activities, skill development, and decent employment opportunities.
As part of its operational scope, FUE leads strategic interventions to boost enterprise engagement and workforce integration in refugee-hosting regions. Key activities under FUE's mandate include hosting investor roundtables and focus group discussions to pinpoint local investment opportunities, building ties with regional businesses, and advocating for inclusive hiring practices.
Furthermore, FUE collaborates with technical bodies like the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) to implement Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programs, certifying the informal skills of both refugees and host community members to make them job-ready.
By integrating refugee-inclusive hiring metrics into its national Employer of the Year Awards (EYA), FUE actively incentivizes Ugandan businesses to uphold decent work standards and foster socio-economic cohesion.rn
